The objective of the WALLeSmart project is to develop an interoperable digital platform, capable of interconnecting livestock data and promoting their valuation.
If we had to summarize the activity of Elevéo asbl in 4 words it would be: breeding, advice, genetics and digital. This non-profit organization is a multi-species and multi-breed breeding organization: its actions concern the cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry and rabbit sectors and affect nearly forty breeds of all species. His goal ? Push each farm upwards, by offering a multitude of interconnected services intended to improve the genetics of Walloon farms and their economic health, with, in the background, taking into account the sustainability of the systems. These services include the registration of animals in herd books, the management of breeding programs, the keeping of management accounts, as well as the development and provision of digital herd management solutions. These tools are based on a large amount of data collected and centralized: data related to the genetics of animals, their performance, their health, the actions performed by the breeder, the quality of the products, etc. These data are aggregated to be then returned to the breeder who can learn the best lessons for his herd while seeing his daily life improved. The originality of Elevéo asbl's approach is to have developed a unique collection of livestock, environmental and techno-economic data for multiple use. These data thus regularly contribute to projects with university partners or research centers both in Belgium and abroad. Elevéo now has nearly 5,000 members and employs around 150 people. Like the Inovéo scrlfs, it is part of the awé group, also called the Walloon Association of Breeders.
The UMONS Faculty of Engineering (FPMS, also known as “Polytech Mons”) has been training innovative, open-minded, future engineers since 1837! The broad scientific knowledge and transferable skills acquired during the course allow our future engineers to exercise extremely diverse trades in varied and challenging environments. All Polytech Mons degrees are also officially recognised in France and are labelled EUR-ACE in Europe, thus strengthening international mobility and employability.
The Walloon Agronomic Research Center (CRA-W) is a scientific establishment dependent on the Walloon regional government. The CRA-W aims to achieve scientific excellence and to contribute to the development of Walloon agriculture in its economic, ecological and cultural dimensions. The CRA-W has 410 employees, including 120 scientists, and has more than 300 ha of experimental fields, orchards, experimental cattle and pig herds, greenhouses, laboratories, etc. The main missions of the CRA-W are to develop applied and fundamental scientific research, to provide services to beneficiaries (producers, operators, citizens and authorities) of the agricultural and agrifood sector and to propose prospects for the development of agriculture and breeding. CRAW is divided into four departments: Life Sciences; Agricultural productions; Sustainability, Systems and Prospects; Knowledge and promotion of agricultural products. CRA-W also has broad expertise in disseminating knowledge, not only to scientists, but also to farmers, policy makers and partners in the agricultural sector.
Open to the world, ULiège favors forms of active and concrete citizenship that puts the values it promotes into action. This citizenship is expressed in the defense of causes and projects. ULiège combines fundamental research with applied research in order to facilitate interdisciplinarity and contacts between all stakeholders. Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (GxABT) is ULiège's Faculty of Agronomic Sciences and Biological Engineering focused on sustainable development with a tradition of supporting agriculture in Wallonia and beyond. In collaboration with local and international partners, ULiège-GxABT has developed an adapted research and innovation strategy in order to be close to the needs of Walloon farms. It provides Walloon farms with the latest advances in terms of data modeling, genetics, genomics and interpretation with the ultimate objective of improving the sustainability of the systems. In various fields of agriculture ULiège-GxABT supports the current digitalization efforts. The originality of ULiège-GxABT's approach is to have developed strategies combining fundamental and applied research working closely with higho and taking advantage of the unique wealth of Walloon breeding, environmental and technical-economic data. Among the various innovative directions, citing research and applications in the innovative use of infrared spectral analysis of milk developed in close collaboration with the CRA-W, higho and the Milk Committee.
The Agence du Numérique is a public limited company dedicated to the implementation and development of Wallonia's digital strategy. We work in close collaboration with the Walloon Government, the various public services and Public Interest Bodies (OIP) of Wallonia, the competitiveness clusters, the federations and representatives of the economic sectors, but also all the actors of the digital ecosystem in Wallonia. Digital Wallonia is Wallonia's digital strategy. This strategy sets the framework within which all the actions of the Walloon Government in the digital transformation of Wallonia fall.
